Description
End-of-project showcase involving participating Project Alchemy artists A playback theatre performance for the 15 Project Alchemy artists at the close of “Alchemy”, their final exhibition, held at The Queanbeyan Hive Gallery. Project Alchemy was a Rebus Theatre-facilitated programme responding to the Black Summer fires: three artists from each of five regions — Bega Valley Shire, Eurobodalla Shire, East Gippsland, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and the ACT — worked together for a year across two residencies, the first in November 2022 to address their own trauma from the fires and to build skills and networks for trauma-informed practice and arts-led economic recovery, the second in early 2023, after which they developed individual and collaborative projects aimed at hopefulness and community spirit. The exhibition gathered the “golden” moments of that year. Playback theatre is described by the presenting company as “a form of improvisational theatre in which audience members tell stories from their own lives and watch as actors and musicians enact them on the spot using movement, music and words, but without script or rehearsal”.
