Compiled the Australian country report for the CODATA Data Citation Workshop (Event)

Activity: Academic Engagements & Memberships › Submissions to industry or govt committees, commissions and inquiries

Description

Compiled the Australian country report for the CODATA Data Citation Workshop. The report sets out a taxonomy of issues for data citation across technical, practical, sociological, economic and epistemic dimensions, treating data citation as serving two distinct functions — evidence reference and credit attribution. It identifies dynamic data citation as a key technical impediment and recommends that a special interest group in dynamic data citation be convened, and surveys existing Australian practice through the data citation guides of the Australian Data Archive, the Australian Antarctic Division Data Centre, the Australian Institute of Marine Science and Geoscience Australia, together with university library guides. CODATA is the data committee of the International Science Council, so this is a national submission to an international body: Paul authored Australia’s contribution to a multi-country exercise.
