Contributed to the ARDC submission to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet – Data Sharing and Release Legislation (Event)

Activity: Academic Engagements & Memberships › Submissions to industry or govt committees, commissions and inquiries

Description

Contributed to the ANDS/ARDC submission responding to the Commonwealth’s Issues Paper on the Data Sharing and Release legislation — the reform arising from the Productivity Commission’s Inquiry into Data Availability and Use. Greg Laughlin (Principal Policy Advisor) led the drafting; Paul, Kate LeMay and Richard Ferrers contributed. Paul supplied the submission’s evidence that research is frequently built on public sector data, and the definitional advice on what counts as a Commonwealth entity under the Act. He afterwards circulated the lodged submission to the NHMRC. A related PMandC roundtable invitation came on 17 July 2018, and a follow-up ARDC brief to PMandC on the same legislation was prepared in October 2018.
