Drafted the ANDS submission to the ARC’s Research Engagement and Impact Assessment consultation. The submission answers the numbered consultation questions in turn: definitions of engagement and impact (Q1–2), relevant measures and indicators for research data, approaches to managing disciplinary differences (Q13), and the use of case studies. It argues that research data is itself a research output capable of carrying engagement and impact, adopts the ATSE definition of research engagement, and points to the companion case studies volume of the Watt review. This is the policy foundation for the later text-mining work on the UK REF Impact Case Studies.
