Keynote: Disasters and Housing in Australia

Without stable, affordable housing, everything else slows down, including mental health, recovery, and community cohesion. The community housing sector is vital to supporting post-disaster housing and recovery but is often left out of preparedness planning. That’s why a cross-sector approach to housing and disasters is essential. Today, I’ll share reflections from our research on what recovery reveals about the need for more equitable, collaborative, and proactive planning. I’ll share stories from people in temporary housing, insights from providers, and what happens when support systems fail.
