Description
“Reconnection”, a free public playback theatre event with the Rebus Playback Theatre Ensemble: facilitated collective storytelling on loneliness and solitude, played back on stage in real time by actors and musicians through improvisation and audience participation. One of three Reconnection events inside the programme. “Out of the Shadows” was a Rebus Theatre programme with the Foundation for Social Health and the Centre for Social Impact testing a new approach to the loneliness epidemic in the ACT: ten community events across March and April 2025, of which Rebus delivered five, four of them public. Audience members were encouraged but never pressed to share, a passive observer was expected to get as much from a session as a participant, and local mental health and wellbeing supports were named to the room. Playback theatre is described by the presenting company as “a form of improvisational theatre in which audience members tell stories from their own lives and watch as actors and musicians enact them on the spot using movement, music and words, but without script or rehearsal”. A CORRECTION THE PROGRAMME PAGE FORCES: v3 titles this row “Loneliness and Solitude”, but that is the subtitle of the Cops in the Head workshop, which ran only at Ralph Wilson Theatre and only on Sunday 30 March. The Tuggeranong event of Monday 31 March was called “Reconnection”. v3’s title is the programme’s theme rather than this event’s name — which is true of both rows v3 gives that title, this one and the Ralph Wilson one, and both are Reconnection performances. That removes a tension rather than adding one: Reconnection is playback theatre, which matches v3’s role of Playback Theatre Performer, whereas Cops in the Head is a Boal workshop and does not.
