The MDBA consultancy will establish principles for the use of publicly available data relating to First Nations people (e.g. Indigenous Data Sovereignty, ICIP and Free Prior and Informed Consent) including from the ABS Census. The project will provide an overview of other approaches (e.g. including with NIAA and the Productivity Commission, other agencies and universities) and make recommendations for a respectful and culturally safe approach to the use of such data by the MDBA. The report will explore the application of principles and the approach to data relating to First Nations people with existing ABS Census datasets as part of the MDBA Local Water Community Insights project, and deliver a report to be approved by the MDBA which may be shared with other agencies.
