Applied Speculation - Designing with Biodiversity Data

Through GPS trackers, citizen-science apps and camera traps, the living world is increasingly traced in data. While often framed as a strictly scientific resource, I argue that this data offers a complex and multi-faceted interface between human and more-than-human worlds. I present a series of projects that aim to expand the design space of biodiversity data, and reflect on the opportunities for practice-led digital design research to move between the speculative and the applied, from unsolicited demo to public collaboration.
