SoundOut #17 — International Festival of Free Improvisation, Free Jazz and Experimental Musics + Art

Activity: Contribution to Event/Engagement › Performance/exhibition

Description

The seventeenth SoundOut festival: seventeen hours of music across four sessions, Friday 30 January 7 to 11.30pm, Saturday 31 January 1 to 5pm and 7 to 11.30pm, and Sunday 1 February 1 to 5pm, with workshops by the Samuel Blaser Trio on 31 January and by Christoph Gallio and Phil Durrant on 1 February at QRC. Paul performed on guitar among an international line-up of some twenty-five artists including Samuel Blaser (Switzerland), Peter Bruun (Germany), Marc Ducret (France), Jean-Philippe Gross (France), Christoph Gallio (Switzerland) and Phil Durrant (United Kingdom), alongside Australian musicians from Canberra, Sydney and Naarm. Tickets were $40 concession and $50 full per session, or $130 and $170 for the season, and the festival ran a crowdfunding campaign owing to a lack of funding for 2026. He came into the programme by way of the reserve list, having been placed on it in July 2025 and appearing on the final printed bill six months later, and he also volunteered on the production side, assisting with sound on the Friday night and collecting the visiting French musician Jean-Philippe Gross from the airport.
