Biography
Dr Alex Eapen is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management. He earned his PhD in Strategy from Tilburg University, The Netherlands. Prior to joining the ANU in 2012, he taught at the University of Sydney Business School from 2005 to 2012.
His research interests include strategic management and international business. Alex has researched knowledge spillovers across firms, exploring both the conditions conducive to these positive spillovers and the empirical estimation techniques needed to accurately estimate their size. He has also published research on multimarket competition between firms, and on knowledge transfers in strategic alliances between firms. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Economic Modelling, and Journal of Business Research.
Dr. Eapen’s research has received several international awards. His doctoral thesis was one of the four finalists for the coveted Gunnar Hedlund prize (2007) given by the Stockholm School of Economics for the best dissertation in Global Strategy written at universities around the world. He also won the Verity Award for the most outstanding paper published in the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences in 2009. In addition, his research was selected and highlighted by the editors of the Journal of International Business Studies as an example of 'groundbreaking scholarship'. He was a finalist for the Alan Rugman Young Scholar prize (2015) given by the Academy of International Business, a finalist for the Carolyn Dexter Award (2017) given by the Academy of Management, and winner of the CEIBS Best Paper Award (2019), from the Academy of Management.
Dr Eapen has engaged extensively with Government and Industry. He has worked closely with the Defence People Group within the Department of Defence on initiatives to improve personnel recruitment and retention. He has also worked with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry on training workshops for capability uplift. His work for external stakeholders has collectively generated funding in excess of $1.2 million for the Australian National University. In recognition of his impactful work with external stakeholders, he was awarded the 2023 Award for Excellence in Research Engagement and Social Impact by the ANU College of Business and Economics.
