Biography

Research

A plant molecular biologist/gene technologist with core interests in RNA biology, mainly microRNAs and understanding their functions (including that of their role in disease and pathogen response), and the characterization of plant RNA-binding proteins. He is Deputy Director of the ARC Training Centre for Accelerated Future Crop Development with interests in plant transformation and gene-editing and developing these technologies in future crops such as Brassica carinata. Has previously done molecular and transgenic research in the fields of anaerobic stress (PhD, CSIRO), seed oils and leaf waxes (Post-Doctoral Fellow, UBC Canada) and seed dormancy and preharvest sprouting (Research Scientist, CSIRO).

Teaching

Convenor of the Master of Biotechnology program. Course convenor of BIOL8702 Advanced Research techniques, and BIOL2162/6162 Molecular Gene Technology.
