Mr Ben Gleeson

Ben is a transdisciplinary human ecologist whose work examines present-day socioecologies from a bio-cultural evolutionary perspective. Ben holds postgraduate qualifications in Ecological Land-Management (Hons) and an Advanced Master of Biological Anthropology. Ben has worked as a sessional academic and senior tutor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society and the Biological Anthropology Department at ANU. Ben’s PhD focuses on human social evolution and aims to support sustainable societal change in the face of impending social and ecological crises. His primary research concerns human cooperative social evolution via emergent social processes that mediated ancestral male dominance competition and aggression. This work links contemporary men’s social dominance and persistent violence to colonising and exploitative social and ecological outcomes and supports our deliberative mediation of continuing social competition as essential to sustainable human futures.
