Biography

Chalaka Fernando is a sustainability practitioner and academic with over 15 years of experience spanning industrial environmental management, sustainable development, and compliance. He currently serves as the Sustainability Manager at Evolve Facility Management and served as the Environmental Sustainability Manager for Campus Environment at ANU, where he lead the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). He completed his PhD at the Research School of Engineering at ANU, focusing on integrating consumer behaviour into dynamic life cycle assessment (LCA) models, particularly within the sharing economy and mobility services. His research aims to enhance decision-making processes in sustainability by incorporating quantitative assessments and consumer perspectives.

Chalaka served in student leadership, including founding ANU’s first student-led environmental committee. He has also served in academic tutoring and lectured in the Fenner School of Environmental and Society, the School of Engineering, and the Research School of Management. Chalaka is interested in supervising Honours and Post Graduate students in the areas of quantifying environmental sustainability connecting to corporate and current day topics.
