Biography

Prof Gericke is a Consultant Neurologist and Epileptologist at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Australian National University. He also serves as Squadron Leader and Neurologist in the Royal Australian Air Force. Previously, he worked as an academic neurologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle and John Hunter Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, King’s College Hospital London and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. After graduating from medical school in Berlin, he trained in neurology at the Charité, followed by epilepsy fellowships in Strasbourg and Geneva. He holds two research doctorates, and Master's degrees from Cambridge, London and Deakin. Prof Gericke read Medical Law at King’s Inns School of Law, is an American Board Certified Independent Medical Examiner, and holds AMA 4 and 5 accreditations in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania. He is a Member of the Queensland Neurology/Neurosurgery Medical Assessment Tribunal and has acted as an Independent Medical Expert for the Supreme Courts in all Australian jurisdictions and the Queensland Coroners Court. He chairs the Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) Therapeutics Committee and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Ethics Section and serves on the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE) Standards and Best Practice Council.
