Personal profile
Biography
I am an archaeological scientist with interdisciplinary expertise in palaeoecology, geoarchaeology, microarchaeology and archaeobotany. My research uniquely combines pollen and phytolith analysis with the microscopic analysis of archaeological soils and sediments to reconstruct high-resolution micro-histories of human-environmental relations and people-plant interactions in deep time. My micro-contextual approach opens micro-scale windows into how people inhabited, utilised, shaped and responded to the ever-changing environments around them.
I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Australian National University where I work on palaeoecological, geomorphological and archaeological records on Gunditjmara Country. I aim to recover knowledge of past management of Country, climate and environmental change, and Indigenous plant use that is archived in soils and sediments, and to restore this knowledge to Indigenous communities to support Indigenous outcomes on Country.
I also act as Senior Specialist Advisor in Geoarchaeology and Environmental Archaeology at Extent Heritage where I provide advice and apply archaeological science methodologies to a broad range of Australian archaeological projects to achieve quality, high-resolution outcomes for heritage management.
