Biography

Emma is a Professor of Finance and, between 2017 and 2024, served as the Associate Dean (Research) of the ANU College of Business and Economics. She has a strong history of University leadership and service and, through this work, has provided long-term, strategic research direction to, and advocacy and support for, academics and higher degree research students. Emma’s research interests are centred on issues in corporate finance, specifically, capital structure, corporate governance, dividend policy and financial and governance literacy. Her research features in top domestic and international journals, and has been enabled by competitive funding awarded through programmes including the Australian Research Council’s Discovery Projects and Linkage Projects schemes. Emma has designed and delivered a wide range of courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervised more than 20 Honours and PhD students in the completion of their research-based dissertations and been awarded a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of her significant, long-term commitment to student learning.  Before joining academia, Emma worked in investment banking and audit and advisory services.
