Biography

Getenet is completing a PhD by publication in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, with an advanced econometric component, at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, Australian National University. He has four publications from his PhD project in leading journals (e.g., Social Science & Medicine, Nutrition Reviews, BMJ Global Health, and BMC Public Health), with one additional manuscript under review. He delivered his oral exit presentation on 16 April 2026, with thesis submission planned for 30 May 2026. He holds an MPH in Epidemiology and an MSc in Adult Health Nursing (ranked 1st in both).

He has a strong track record of high-impact, policy-relevant research, reflected in over 50,000 citations and an h-index of 39 and i10-index of 63 (based on Google scholar). According to Scopus, his publications have received over 43,439 citations and achieved an h-index of 28. Excluding Global Burden of Disease (GBD) collaborator publications, my research outputs have received 3,214 citations with an h-index of 34. After excluding GBD collaborator publications, my research contributions have been cited in 19 international policy reports and technical guidance documents published by the World Health Organization and other international organizations.
