Biography

Ginny is leading a body of work embedding capabilities for engagement and research translation to achieve greater research impact. 

Ginny has extensive experience in population health research including: evaluation of government programs and policy; using co-production and other Implementation Science approaches; designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion interventions, including prevention of obesity; and disseminating research outcomes. 

Ginny has experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods including: developing and conducting large surveys; conducting interviews with a variety of participants and stakeholders; conducting focus groups and visual content analysis.

Research Interests

Dr Sargent is leading the research and practice to build organisational capacity for conducting engaged research and achieving research impact. Dr Sargent’s research includes working to improve the translation of evidence in to policy and practice. 

Ginny's practice builds on her academic and public sector experience in conducting research to inform health policy. Ginny uses her research expertise and success in leading multi-sector collaborations to solve complex problems.

Ginny works with a broad range of stakeholders, including the community, health service consumers, government and non-governement organisations and national and state governments.

The broad aims of Dr Sargent's research are to:

  • work collaboratively to solve complex problems
  • improve the impact of research
  • enhance the understanding of the socio-cultural context of preventable chronic diseases 
  • use systems approaches to address the social determinants of health
  • improve population health.

Ginny is conducting research to build theory, design preventive interventions and examine the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing population health evidence in a variety of settings.
