Biography

Dr Haribondhu Sarma is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Epidemiology at NCEPH, ANU, with expertise in global health, nutrition, and health systems research in the Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has secured $5.5 million in research grants, including $2.5 million for nutrition implementation research in Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Sub-Saharan Africa, and is implementing a $2.1 million research grant for the Timor-Leste Bacteria, Enteropathy, and Nutrition Study. His current research focuses on Strengthening Health Resilience and Sustainable Marine Biodiversity in Indonesia by developing an innovative nanoliposome product from seagrapes for diabetes treatment, integrating nutrition science with environmental sustainability.

With 100+ publications, Dr Sarma’s work has influenced WHO and IFPRI nutrition policies, and he has presented at 31 national and international conferences, including as an invited speaker. He actively mentors early-career researchers and supervises multiple PhD and MPH students, fostering research capacity in public health. As an Associate Editor for BMC Health Services Research and PLOS One, he contributes to advancing global health knowledge.

In education, he convenes the Global Population Health course within the MPH program, integrating innovative teaching methods such as flipped classrooms and stakeholder engagement. His leadership experience includes program evaluations at ICDDR,B, international research collaborations, and serving on the NCEPH Research Committee.
