Biography
Janit completed her PhD in South East Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2011 on a scholarship from the Harvard-Yenching Institute. Her PhD research investigated the "desire to be modern" of the Siamese/Thai state from the mid-nineteenth century to the modern era and the relationship between the modern environment and gender and sexuality in Cold War Thai literature.
Research interests
Janit Feangfu specializes in modern and contemporary Thai literature and Cultural Studies. Her research interests include Cold War literature, popular literature, the portrayal of cross-cultural contact, gender, social and cultural issues in literature, food memoirs and contemporary Isan (Northeastern) Literature.
Her love of popular culture and narrative in all forms inspires her research as well as language teaching and learning.
