Biography

Liz has considerable experience working in the public and academic sectors. She was named among the national Top 5 academics in the humanities and social sciences by the ABC in 2018.

The Future of Us, Liz's first book was published in 2020, tracks Australia's demographic journey through time and presents opportunities for a fairer and more equal nation.

She was named a woman to watch by the Ausralian Financial Review in 2023.

Liz’s doctoral research explored the individual, family and neighbourhood contributions to child excess weight and screen time among two Australian cohorts.

Liz has experience teaching a number of courses, including: postgraduate preparatory courses; SOCR1001 Foundations of Social Research; SOCR4008 Qualitative Social Research; SOCR8008 Qualitative Data Collection; SOCR8011 Mixed Methods Social Research; DEMO2001 Population Studies; DEMO8079 Health Demography; and DEMO8082 Social Research Practice.

Liz was formerly a representative for the Network of Early Career Teachers, Academics and Researchers at the ANU.

Dr Allen served on the ANU Council as an elected staff member 2022-24.

Liz was a national council member of the Australian Population Association 2016-2020. 

Liz was Vice President of Australian Population Association 2012-16.

Liz was Secretary of the Australian Population Association 2008-12.
