Prof Llewelyn Hughes

I am a social scientist researching the low carbon energy transition. At the ANU I am currently serving as Interim Director of the Institute for Climate, Energy, and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) at the Australian National University. I also sit on the ANU Academic Board, and am a Professor of Public Policy at the Crawford School of Public Policy.

I contribute through a number of external appointments, including as a member of the Clean Energy Transition Subcommittee of the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee (AJBCC), non-executive director at the Australia-Japan Innovation Fund, research director and non-executive director at the Australian Institute of International Affairs, Australia Focal Point for the Energy Research Institute Network (ERIN) of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and member of the Executive Committee & Council for the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS). I also serve as external examiner for the Sustainability Leadership and Governance Programme at the University of Hong Kong.

My research is informed by an interest in how the structure of markets for energy-related commodities and technologies affects business and government. In recent work I have used a technologically-informed and sector specific approach to documenting and explaining the low carbon energy transition, with a particular focus on interdependence and global supply chains.
