Dr Louisa King is currenlty a Research Fellow, Design for Disaster Resilience, in the School of Art and Design, Research School of Humanities and the Arts, at the Australian National University. She is a member of the transdisciplinary team — spanning the School of Art and Design, the School of Engineering, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, and the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions — delivering Developing Local Capacity through Community-led Flood Intelligence Networks, a state-wide initiative funded by the Australian Government's Disaster Ready Fund. The project partners with regional and rural communities across the Wilsons River Catchment, Mullumbimby/Main Arm, Uki, and Cabonne Shire/Eugowra to design, test, and deliver community-led flood resilance networks and state-wide resources for informed, timely flood preparation and response. Dr King contributes to the design and development of these networks and outcomes, alongside fieldwork and community engagement, and the supervision or co-supervision, as appropriate, of research-support staff involved in the project team's research.
Prior to joining ANU, Dr King was a full-time Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (2017–2026), and previously held an academic appointment at RMIT University (2012–2016).
Dr King holds a PhD from RMIT University (2025), a Master of Landscape Architecture (Honours) from RMIT University, and a Bachelor of Design from RMIT University. Her broader research spans landscape architecture, cultural ecology, and human–environment relations, with published work addressing groundwater and wetland ecologies, polar landscapes, and decolonial approaches to landscape practice. Her writing has appeared in journals including Landscape Research, Interstices, ARQ Journal, OASE, and Swamphen: A Journal of Cultural Ecology, and she is a contributing author to the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Landscape and Decolonisation.
