Biography

Luca Casagrande is Associate Director (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) in the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the Australian National University (ANU) and Associate Editor for the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia.

He earned his Master's degree in Physics from the University of Turin (Italy) and his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Turku (Finland). Prior to joining ANU in 2012, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics.

Luca Casagrande and his research team work to piece together how the Milky Way formed and evolved over billions of years by analysing the properties, chemical compositions, motions, and ages of its stars, clusters, and streams.
