Biography

After completing my PhD and military service, I joined the Research School of Chemistry as a postdoctoral researcher. My role evolved to include teaching and management, and I became the de facto manager of research and teaching for up to 30 students including supervising research, taught techniques, and improved the quality of work produced by the group.
I also helped automate many activities in the group, such integration of MS-Teams and many bookkeeping operations, with the use of SharePoint, MS Forms, Power Apps and Power Automate.

My research and communication expertise are demonstrated by my 39 co-authored publications in high-impact journals, which attest to my proficiency in synthesis, analysis, scientific database research, and scientific and technical communication.

As my role expanded, I was drawn to the challenge of designing and conducting experiments with complex equipment like class 4 open bench lasers and cryogenic systems, setting up z-scan and HRS experiments from the ground up. Though self-education and practice, I became proficient in using LabVIEW and Python languages and developed specialized acquisition and data analysis applications that improved the efficiency and accuracy of our research. I also design and developed a robust low-temperature spectro-electrochemistry setup, with the help of a workshop for manufacturing my designed cell.

In addition to my technical work, I have also been part of the team responsible for implementing safety changes in the Australian National University's WHS system since 2019. Despite not being a full-fledged WHS personnel, I have contributed many ideas that were implemented in the Research School of Chemistry, including the deadman switch for Lq N2 dispensation and the optimization of the solvent purification system maintenance and operation. Through my collaboration with the workshop, I have developed strong skills in communication and analytical thinking in high-risk and technical environments.

My passion for learning and optimization extends beyond my work in the lab. I enjoy acquiring new skills and knowledge and have made optimizing and automating procedures a hobby of mine. With my outstanding work ethic, award-winning communication and teaching skills, substantive technical and research expertise, knowledge of WHS practices, and strong sense of community, I am excited to contribute to a team that shares my passion for excellence and innovation.
