Biography

Dr Maria Jahromi is a Visiting Fellow at the ANU Research School of Economics. Prior to that she was Senior Lecturer in Economics at POLIS: The Centre for Social Policy Research at the Australian National University. She received her PhD in Finance from University of Sydney in 2015 and now works across several areas of applied finance and economics. 

Her current projects cover various topics including the impact of financial crises on financial asset returns and volatility, economic sanctions, the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, Islamic finance, health economics and economics of education.

Maria regularly presents at local and international conferences and publishes in highly ranked academic journals. She is the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards including the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) Prize for the best paper on derivatives/quantitative finance presented at the 24th Australasian Finance & Banking Conference in Sydney. 

She has taught courses in econometrics, statistics, microeconomics and finance at the Australian National University since 2010.
