Biography

Markus is an economist and survey researcher with broad research interests spanning labour and health economics, economic inequality, social policy, gambling, and survey methodology. His research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed economics and social science journals.

He is the program convenor of the Master of Social Research Methods and teaches courses on applied econometrics and survey methods across various postgraduate programs, including the Master of Social Research Methods and Master of Economics.

He is an associate editor for the Australian Journal of Social Issues (AJSI), a member of the advisory committee of the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes (AuSSA), and the Australian representative of the Asia-Pacific chapter of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR). He is a Fellow of ANU's Tax and Transfer Policy Institute.

Before joining the ANU in 2022, he had been a researcher for the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey at the University of Melbourne.
