Biography

Dr Matthew Kelly is a leader in research on health in the Asia-Pacific region, at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH), ANU. He has research experience addressing the major health challenges in the Asia-Pacific spanning more than 15 years, and completed his PhD addressing the impact of changing food systems on population health in Thailand in 2015. Dr Kelly has a track record in global health and health transitions, public health nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Neglected Tropical Diseases, and burden of disease assessment, particularly for mortality. He has close collaborations with leading Universities and Ministries of Health in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. He also leads the Master of Public Health program at the ANU.

Research Interests

Dr Kelly's research interest span many of the major health challenges in the Asia-Pacific region with a focus on Southeast Asia. Some key areas of research include the changing nutrition burdens in the region, health information system strengthening particulalry for mortality surveillance, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and related health burdens, and non-communicable disease and infection interactions with a focus on tuberculosis-diabetes mellitus co-morbidity.
