Biography

Pat O’Grady is a contemporary music researcher, educator, and practitioner specializing in music production. He is a lecturer in music technology and convenor of the Bachelor of Music (Honours) program at the ANU School of Music. He holds a PhD in contemporary music recording and songwriting practice. His research explores the 'latent elements in music production' and the cultural politics of technologies and practices associated with recording environments. He authored the book "Bee Gees, Process, and Latent Elements in Music Production," which is currently in press and due for publication in early 2025 by Routledge in the Ashgate Popular and Folk Music Series. 
Pat has published in journals such as Popular Music and Society (2018 and 2023), Popular Music, Journal of Popular Music Studies, Creative Industries Journal, Convergence, Continuum, and Perfect Beat. His work also appears in the edited collections "Producing Music," "Networked Music Cultures: Contemporary Approaches, Emerging Issues," "Researching Live Music: Gigs, Tours, Concerts, and Festivals," and "Lit-Rock: Literary Capital in Popular Music."
He has two decades of professional experience in producing and performing popular music and is the current treasurer of the Australian/New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
