Biography
Roxana Claudia Tompea is a PhD researcher, interested in green growth, digitalization, and the lies used in the communication about foods good for health and the environment (leanwashing and greenwashing).
She is an ARC Laureate at the Planetary Health Equity Hothouse within the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) at the Australian National University. Her research examines the regulatory regimes around greenwashing in the European Union food sector (ultra-processed foods).
Roxana is a communication and knowledge management specialist with experience in project implementation, sustainability, and international organizations. Since 2020, she has been working on issues related to circular economy in industry within the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Here, her focus has been on environment-related action and the demonstration and promotion of green growth opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Her research builds on her experience in the European Union, the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood, Western Balkans, Central Asia, and the Caucasus region, and further explores the commercial determinants of health in specific sectors of the European Union. By taking an interdisciplinary approach, she investigates the effectiveness of current regulations in reducing greenwashing in foods, as well as their overarching contribution to food equity, climate change, and the governance of planetary health.
