Dr. Shawn Treier is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Politics and International Relations at The Australian National University. Previously, he has been an assistant professor at University of Georgia and the University of Minnesota, and lecturer at the University of Virginia. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney in 2011-2012 and a visiting scholar from 2013-2020. His work has been published in American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Political Analysis, Public Opinion Quarterly and elsewhere. He is also the co-author, with Jeremy C. Pope, of the 2020 book Founding Factions: How Majorities Shifted and Aligned to Shape the U.S. Constitution.

His research concerns the development of Bayesian models of measurement and application to American political institutions, behaviour and development, and the measurement of democracy.
