This medal was established by the Earth and Space Science Informatics Division in recognition of the scientific achievements of Ian McHarg. It is awarded for distinguished research in information technology applied to Earth and space sciences. The 2025 Ian McHarg Medal is awarded to Lesley Wyborn for achievements in enabling collaboration among international organisations and leadership with regard to global, multidisciplinary data infrastructure in the fields of Earth and space sciences.
