Project Details
Description
This MEC proposal comes in support of the ARC LIEF grant LE140100013. The current proposal
addresses key research across a range of extragalactic areas that all broadly aim to understand the
formation and evolution of galaxies in our Universe. High angular resolution observations are
essential for these investigations. Advanced adaptive-optics systems, such as the Gemini Multi-
Conjugate Adaptive-Optics System (GeMS) on the 8-metre Gemini South telescope in Chile, have
revolutionized extragalactic studies by achieving similar sharp images at near-infrared wavelengths
from the ground as the Hubble Space Telescope achieves at optical wavelengths from space.
