Project Details
Description
Virtually everything we know about the origin and evolution of our solar system comes from analysis of meteorite
falls. But reading the record they contain has proven to be difficult: we have almost no constraint on where they
come from. The Desert Fireball Network is addressing that lack. It is delivering a unique dataset. This project aims
to massively expand the network by capitalising on the innovations and technologies that underpinned the DFN,
Leveraging a NASA partnership for administrative support, Australian planetary scientists will lead a consortium of
international teams with the aim of building a Global Fireball Observatory: tracking 100’s of meteorite falls, and for
each one, pinpointing its origin in the solar system.
