Project Details
Description
A new seismic facility will be created that targets three emerging needs in the Earth Sciences: (1) collaboration with neighboring countries - particularly those in southeast Asia and the western Pacific - to better image regional structure and identify areas at risk of tsunamogenic earthquakes; (2) understanding the potential of passive seismic deployments at the exploration scale; (3) improved observation and imaging of Australia's most earthquake prone regions. The goal of the new facility is to move Australian seismology into a new era of research, where engaging with international partners to pursue frontier research for mutual gain is encouraged, and brand new strands of science which have significant societal benefits are fostered.
