A platform for protein design and evolution in mammalian cells

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Proteins underlie countless biological and industrial applications. Yet most current methods for engineering proteins do not replicate the complexity of human cells, limiting our ability to create advanced therapeutics, diagnostics, and biomanufacturing solutions. This project will bridge that gap by developing a first-of-its-kind platform to design and evolve proteins directly in mammalian cells, where they naturally function. By integrating machine learning and evolutionary principles, our approach will rapidly generate proteins with novel or enhanced capabilities tailored to human biological conditions. This breakthrough will create tangible benefits for Australia. First, it could accelerate local development of more effective biopharmaceuticals, improving the health of our nation. Second, it will open new commercial opportunities in biotechnology and biomanufacturing, fostering innov
