Project Details
Description
The proposed dye-laser system will replace an obsolete laser obtained from the University of Sydney and which was purchased in 1995. Over the course of three years we have attemped to perform measurements with the old laser however due to issues with the laser optics and crystals, beam stability, laser energy, computer software incompatibility, no advancement could be made using the laser.
This proposal is targeted at addressing the current understanding of plasma-material interactions that play a crucial role in fusion and technological plasma. We will construct a laser based diagnostic platform for probing the physical and chemical properties of the plasma amd the plasma-surface interaction region. The laser diagnostic platform will emable accourate 2D measurements of the plasma-surface interface with a high degree of spatail (< mm) and temporal (ns) resolution, and provides the capability of measuring a range of species and their properties.
