A strategic approach to monitoring and increasing nest survival of regent honeyeaters

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Through support from the Holsworth fund, we have established and successfully implemented a national monitoring program that has located regent honeyeaters throughout their range. We have monitored 67 nesting attempts and shown that low nest survival due to high predation and a male sex ratio bias is inhibiting population recovery. We seek additional funds to continue our research into the ecology and conservation of the regent honeyeater. Funds will be used to expand and refine monitoring effort, implement a robust nest protection strategy and to facilitate a study into flowering phenology and phenological mismatch at regent honeyeater nest sites.
