All-optical reconfigurable interconnects in nematic liquid crystals

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

All-optical computing, i.e. the ability to optically process optical signals using switching concepts such as 'light controlling light' and 'light guiding light', reshaping and routing functions with various levels of complexity as in electronic architectures, still remains largely unexplored and unexploited. In this project we will address the core problem of optical signal control utilizing the methods of nonlinear optics and photonics, by manipulating single, multiple and vortex guided waves in nematic liquid crystals. We aim to develop innovative experimental techniques in Australia for highly effective control of optical signals facilitating the emergence of novel technologies.
