An Economic Analysis of Local Content Requirements in Radio Broadcasting: A Model and an Empirical Investigation of the Australian Experience

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Aims: first, to develop a theoretical model of the music market to provide insights into what results a local content requirement imposed on radio broadcasters might have and under what conditions. Second, to look more closely on an empirical basis at the Australian experience with such quotas. Significance: neither of these things have been done before and yet the potential input into policy decisions regarding the setting of such quotas is substantial. Australian quotas have increased steadily over the years and yet there is no real understanding of their effects nor much rationale for these changes. Expected outcomes: include published (and disseminated) papers as well as insights to feed into policy making.
