An Indigenous Australian reference genome: Indigenous inclusion in the benefits of genomic medicine

This project will (1) de novo assemble an Indigenous Australian reference genome using long-read technologies from Indigenous participants across Australia; (2) quantify the level and consequences of reference bias for genomic research and clinical genomics with genome sequence data from panels of Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants; and (3) establish best practice guidelines for implementing genomic tools for research and clinical practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
