Analysing and modelling molecular rate variation among nuclear and mitochondrial genomes

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Rapidly proliferating genomic data allow us to gain unique insights into evolution at the genetic level. The models used to analyse these data employ a number of poorly understood assumptions, which can now be tested rigorously due to the availability of genetic data. I will focus on two key study systems: bovids (including newly generated data from cow, aurochs, and bison), and primates and related mammals. I will also develop novel bioinformatic tools to simulate and analyse complex evolutionary processes. My research will offer comprehensive insights into the genetics of domestication and primate evolution, and will produce crucial methodological advances.
