    Description

Geometry has often been pivotal to advances in quantum theory. New exotic geometries have been found underlying string theory which possess dualities such as T-duality in which geometrically different spaces lead to physically equivalent theories. The same structures have only recently begun to appear in mathematics, as part of the emerging subject known as generalized geometry. This proposal seeks to develop a comprehensive framework for T-duality based on the mathematics of generalized geometry, significantly extending the scope of recent efforts. Understanding such duality is crucial to a complete description of string theory.
