Description
Driving is a highly visual task, yet we have little understanding of what information captures attention, or how it captures attention and why or how some objects or hazards attract attention while others do not. This project investigates the mechanisms of visuo-spatial attention underling hazard detection and distraction when driving, providing the cohesive theoretical framework currently lacking in the literature. Using innovations in Head Mounted displays, we will evaluate hazard perception and distraction in ambulance officers - one of the safest, yet demanding driving roles in the world. Then, based on expert drivers, and sound psychological theory we will determine the potential to develop new hazard perception training regimes
