Description
What are the concrete tactics of nonviolence that flip violence to cascades of nonviolence? By documenting and analysing seven ‘cascades’ of armed violence and nonviolent resistance of the past century, violence and nonviolence are reinterpreted as global contagions. A singular objective like regime change in Iraq or Afghanistan cascades to other layers of violence. A single layer of nonviolent resistance in Tunisia can cascade to the Arab Spring. The aim is a new, distinctive cascade theory of the spread of violence, a theory
of why nonviolence cascades have been more successful and nonviolence more widely used since 1945 than in previous history.
