Description
The Paris Agreement goal for global warming requires urban areas to halve their emissions in just 8 years; at thesame time cities are already suffering the impacts of changing climate. Thus, there is an urgent need to transformcities towards climate safe futures. By novel conceptualization of cities as transformative agents, this project aimsto generate breakthrough theoretical and empirical knowledge on the pathways and mechanisms oftransformation within and across cities, as well as the governance approaches the transformative agency of cities.Further benefits span new urban climate policy and practice in Australia and globally, next-generation urbanresearch capability, and Australian leadership in integrative new urban science.
