Project Details
Description
Led by the Yolngu elder and researcher, Joseph Neparrnga Gumbula, this project asks how best to provide access for Indigenous communities, through the now ubiquitous 3G mobile devices, to their invaluable cultural resources held in distributed collections worldwide. The project will develop a clouded database engine and networked apps for streaming digitised heritage resources in ways that are appropriate for Indigenous peoples, particularly those in remote communities. Trial content will be carefully selected from records of Gumbula's own heritage dating from 1924, and made discoverable and accessible following extensive consultations with collections curators and potential community users.
