    Project Details

    Description

Reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerisation is an important technique, recently developed by CSIRO, for controlling the molecular weight and architecture of the polymers produced in free-radical polymerisation. The aim of this project is to design and evaluate novel RAFT agents to extend this process to difficult but important monomers. To achieve this aim, the project will use the innovative approach of combining state-of-the-art quantum chemical calculations with sophisticated kinetic modelling. This research should expand the applicability of the RAFT process, and facilitate the production of a range of new polymer products with applications in biotechnology and nanotechnology.
