Project Details
Description
The isolated NSW populations of Rosenberg's goanna (Varanus rosenbergi) are listed as Vulnerable on the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act of 1995. In this multi-disciplinary PhD project, cutting-edge molecular genetic research will reveal if or by how much NSW and ACT populations differ from other populations and identify appropriate conservation management units. Extensive radio-telemetry based fieldwork will reveal habitat requirements, home range, diet, and nest-site selection. A synthesis of these independent studies will be used to devise an informed Recovery Plan. This detailed research will serve as a model for other such studies of rare and endangered wildlife.
