Decoding Defects: Unveiling Photon-Emitting Defect Structures in Materials for Quantum Sensors

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This project aims to develop quantum sensing technologies which leverage single photon emitters to achieve fast, reliable and ultra-sensitive detection capabilities far exceeding classical technologies. However, the lack of understanding about the atomic structures behind these photon emitters limits our ability to optimize materials for these technologies. To bridge this gap, this project will create an innovative machine learning-enabled correlative microscopy methodology which will provide unprecedented insights into the mechanisms that govern single photon emissions. The outcome of this project will enable the next-generation quantum sensors for surveillance and remote monitoring applications critical for Australia’s national security.
